An exhibition worth checking out…

One of the Leytonstone Museum curators, Diana Korchien is curating a photo expo on the land which became the Olympic Park. A prescient personal project from photojournalist Homer Sykes. Do go along to “Before the Blue Wall“. It’s not part of the museum but we are happy to promote it!

Leytonstone Museum is taking part in Leytonstone Arts Trail!

Leytonstone Museum is taking part in Leytonstone Arts Trail!

We will have a pop up exhibition at the Red Lion pub from Tues 17th – Thurs 19th July. You are all invited to the public view on Tuesday 17th from 12-1pm where the curated pop up will be revealed!

We will also be announcing the caption competition winners. If you haven’t entered yet, head to the competition page asap. The deadline is Monday 9th July.

Arts Trail

The Arts Trail takes place from 12th – 22nd July and there are some fantastic things to see including works by some of Leytonstone Museum’s contributors. I hope to showcase some of them in the coming weeks if MA work allows!

Copies of the Arts Trail booklet are available from the Library, the Stone Space and other Leytonstone venues.

It looks set to be another great year with over 70 artists registered to take part!

And if by any chance you missed the boat to participate in the trail why not fill your windows with art instead…. visit the ‘Lets Fill Leytonstone with Art’ website to find out more.

Join ‘People of Leytonstone’ on Facebook!

He would like photographic contributions to a collection of ‘People of Leytonstone’. All you need to do is join the group then take a self portrait using your computer and post it on the People of Leytonstone page.

Today The Stone Space hosted Leytonstone Museum’s handling session of the printed collection. It was lovely to talk with the people who called in and especially good to see the photos along side the fantastic ‘1 day’s walk’ exhibition, which puts the spotlight on Leytonstone!

Visitors were a mixture of newcomers to Leytonstone Museum, regular Stone Space visitors, Leytonstone Museum contributors and people who had heard on various grape vines about the project and wanted to see what it is all about! It was lovely to see you all, thanks for popping in!

And for those who missed it, ‘1 Day’s Walk‘ is still on so do go and see it and the museum will be back for a pop-up exhibition at the Red Lion during the fabulous Leytonstone Arts Trail!

Handling session, The Stone Space, Sat 23rd 2-3pm!

The Stone Space are hosting Leytonstone Museum’s archive for a special a handling session on Saturday 23rd June from 2-3pm. Come along to see, discuss and handle Leytonstone Museum’s printed archive in it’s box!

Many of the visitors to the Olympics this summer will pass through Leytonstone, but the town is so much more than a stepping stone to this year’s games, and we want to make sure that we get across the flavour of Leytonstone to visitors!

20 artist’s work will be exhibited, and printed postcards of their work will be available for sale during the exhibition, Leytonstone arts trail, and throughout the duration of this years Olympic games.

And last, but certainly not least – the south Leytonstone beauty salon Beauty Angels  have promised a free salt therapy session alleviating symptoms of hay fever and asthma sufferers as well as other respiratory complaints. There’s a therapy room for children (with toys) as well as an adults’ room.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday 17th July, 12-1pm at the Red Lion pub on Leytonstone High Road. Winners who cannot attend will be notified by email or post so please don’t forget to submit your name and contact details.
